2B-FLXHR 006: Low clouds

Clouds that reside in the lowest 1 km of the atmosphere are not captured in current CloudSat products. Thus upwelling SW fluxes may be severely underestimated in regions that contain large numbers of low clouds.

Planned resolution: The 2B-TAU product should provide a source of low cloud information based on MODIS radiances.

2B-FLXHR 006: Modeling of precipitating pixels

As there are currently no LWC/IWC products in precipitating regions, the FLXHR algorithm currently assumes a uniform 0.5 g/m^3 in all cloudy bins indicated by 2B-GEOPROF.

Planned resolution: Ultimately precipitation products will be used to supply the missing water contents.
